Sigma Delta Tau encourages each individual member to reach her fullest potential by providing intellectual opportunities. SDT begins academic programming immediately with the National New Member Program. Six pearls and a diamond on SDT's National Torch badge represent the seven areas of sorority education. The diamond is designated for scholarship, as academic achievement is Sigma Delta Tau's number one priority. SDT is dedicated to helping each member succeed academically through scholarship programming, recognition incentives, and mentoring opportunities.
We emphasize the importance of scholarship from the very beginning, hosting the first official Study Hours session for the New Members the day after Bid Day! During these sessions the girls are able to work together on group projects, form study groups, utilize the time to tutor each other, or work on their own. Aside from the weekly Study Hours, SDT also offers many other opportunities for our sisters to flourish academically. We sponsor a Sister-to-Sister scholarship fund, Major Mentors and Study Socials. The Major Mentor system is a new program that we are really excited about: although each Sister has access to an Academic Advisor and ratemyprofessors.com, we have found that the information they have is not always sufficient for the fullest experience within the classroom. We want each Sister to enjoy all of her classes; therefore, we have set up a system that matches each sister to an upperclassman in the same major. So far this program has worked beautifully! Finally, we also host many Study Socials during Mid-terms and Finals as an opportunity to relax and take a break from studying - or to share some study tip. We offer study snacks and coffee (a welcome relief from all nighters!), and we've recently added yoga during these stressful times to help our sisters find some peace while under a lot of pressure!
