Philanthropy

Prevent Child Abuse AmericaAt the 1982 National Convention, the convention body unanimously agreed to adopt Prevent Child Abuse America as Sigma Delta Tau's National Philanthropy. Every chapter of Sigma Delta Tau is now actively involved in the support of PCAA, a voluntary organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse through citizen action.

Through a variety of activities including educational awareness programs, community service projects, and fund raising activities, each chapter creatively donates their time, energy, and money to assist the National Headquarters of PCAA or a local child abuse agency.  Each Sigma Delta Tau chapter conducts an annual service project, educational program, or major fund raiser for the benefit of Prevent Child Abuse America.  Together, the SDT chapters contribute more than $50,000 each year to their National Philanthropy.Claire, Amber, Dani, and Stacey at Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye

The Alpha Iota Chapter is extremely devoted to supporting PCAA, as well as many other philanthropic and charitable organizations.  We have participated in national events such as Relay for Life and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, as well as community-specific projects like Letters for Learning in New Orleans schools.  Our chapter also participates in a variety of unique events created and carried out by its members, such as ΣΔΤ Late (benefitting Prevent Child Abuse America) and Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye.  The girls of Sigma Delta Tau recognize that charity is more than just donating money, which is why as a chapter, we not only raise funds, but also participate in service projects that Sig Delts at the New Orleans Heart Walkhelp the local, as well as the national communities, with passion and enthusiasm.  These service projects include:

Our chapter also participates in the Philanthropy projects of Tulane's other Greek organizations.  This year, we were named the overall winner of Sigma Chi's Derby Days, so the fraternity donated a percentage of the proceeds earned in the week's events to Prevent Child Abuse America.

Alpha Iota is especially excited about our newest Philanthropy event, ΣΔΤ Dinner Out, which was held Thursday, November 19th at two area restaurants.  A portion of all of the evening's dinner proceeds was donated to PCAA - a fun and tasty way to get the community involved in our philanthropy efforts!
