Recruitment is the mutual selection process by which sororities select their new members and potential members select the chapter in which they feel most comfortable.
Sigma Delta Tau participates in Tulane University's Sorority Panhellenic Formal Recruitment each spring. For eligibility and recruitment information, please visit the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Programs.
Recommendations and questions can be sent to Joy Moglia, VP of Recruitment. She can be reached at sgaylor@tulane.edu or at 1013 Broadway, New Orleans, LA 70118. Please note that letters of recommendation are not necessary for new member recruitment.
Why Sigma Delta Tau?
If you are a potential new member, the following information should give you a good overview of why Sigma Delta Tau is more than you can imagine! Sigma Delta Tau...
Promotes Academic Achievement - Sigma Delta Tau encourages each individual member to reach her fullest potential by providing intellectual opportunities. ΣΔΤ begins academic programming immediately with the National New Member Program. Six pearls and a diamond on ΣΔΤ's National Torch badge represent the seven areas of sorority education. The diamond is designated for scholarship, as academic achievement is Sigma Delta Tau's number one priority. ΣΔΤ is dedicated to helping each member succeed academically through scholarship programming, recognition incentives, and mentoring opportunities.
Builds Leadership Skills - Sigma Delta Tau sisters develop leadership talents through "hands-on" experience in a variety of fields. Through chairing a project, leading an intramural team, holding an executive board office, or creating a fund raising campaign, ΣΔΤ provides a solid training ground for young women to develop and hone their skill set that will be easily transferable to the workplace. Sisters learn to handle conflict resolution, manage multiple projects, practice public speaking, develop marketing strategies, and run a chapter meeting!
Provides an Opportunity for a Jewish Sorority Experience - Sigma Delta Tau was founded by seven Jewish women in 1917 at Cornell University. Though membership is open to all, ΣΔΤ has a long history of strong Judaic traditions. On many campuses, ΣΔΤ works closely with Hillel as leaders in the campus Jewish community. ΣΔΤ's members represent all races and religions; however, when needed, ΣΔΤ can provide the opportunity for members to practice and explore Jewish religious and cultural traditions.
Instills a Sense of Philanthropy - Every chapter of Sigma Delta Tau is actively involved in the support of ΣΔΤ's National Philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America. Through educational awareness programs, to community service projects, to fund raising activities, each chapter creatively donates their time, energy, and money to assist the National Headquarters of PCAA or a local child abuse agency. Giving one's personal time and talents to a worthy cause is rewarded with a sense of personal fulfillment and satisfaction; the habit of giving to others is often a life-time addiction!
Creates a Lifelong Bond of Friendship - The special bond of sisterhood provides a unique connection which begins in college and lasts a lifetime. These distinctive ties of friendship provide a network of female support in every phase of a member's life. These friendships will enrich a sister's college experience, as well as provide exceptional connections in both personal and professional life after graduation.
